How can I tell the difference between M47 and N47 engines?

M47 engines are typically found in E87 chassis before 2007 and produce 163 HP (120d) or 122 HP (118d). N47 engines were introduced after 2007 and generally produce 177 HP or 143 HP. You can also check the first 3 digits of the "Engine No" section on your registration document.
