Is the tie rod the same as the tie rod end? No. This product is the **Inner Tie Rod**, which is the long rod coming out of the steering box. The end part that connects to the wheel (carrier) and has a ball joint is the **Outer Tie Rod**. Most of the time, the play is caused by the inner tie rod joint, but both need to be checked.
Should I buy different products for the right and left sides? The tie rod (inner tie rod) in BMW E90 chassis is **the same structure** for both right and left wheels, meaning it is symmetrical.
