My petrol E46 3.20i has a cap that says "200", what happens if I buy this original cap that says "140"? You should definitely not install it. The cooling system of petrol E46s (M52/M54) is generally calibrated for 2.0 Bar (200) pressure. If you install this 1.4 bar (140) cap on a 2.0 bar system, the cap will mistakenly open early thinking the pressure is dangerous when the system reaches normal operating temperature, causing your vehicle to continuously expel water (boil). Make sure that "140" is written on your old cap before ordering.
My radiator hoses become rock hard while running, is the problem due to the 140 cap? If your vehicle is factory equipped with a 140 system, the issue is not the 140 cap; it is the failure of the drain valve inside your current cap that has become stuck.
